Tropical Storm Nearing, Another Disturbance Brewing

The Central Pacific Hurricane Center (CPHC) is monitoring two weather disturbances in the East Pacific basin.

Disturbance 1: Tropical Storm Irwin

Tropical Storm Irwin, a Category 1 storm, is approaching Hawaii from the east-southeast.

As of Wednesday, August 21, 2024, Irwin is located about 1350 miles east-southeast of Hilo.

The storm is packing maximum sustained winds of 85 mph.

Disturbance 2: Tropical Disturbance

An unnamed tropical disturbance is brewing about 700 miles southwest of Irwin.

The disturbance is expected to develop into a tropical storm within the next 48 hours.

Potential Impacts

Forecasters warn that both disturbances could bring heavy rainfall and strong winds to Hawaii.
